CHS Delivers Non-Marking Coil Feedline for Pre-Painted Material to a Major Lighting and Appliance Manufacturer

Jul 07 2016

CHS Automation recently built a new non-marking coil feedline designed for running pre-painted material for a leading manufacturer in the appliance and lighting industry. The 10,000 Lbs. x 18” x .080” feedline was shipped this June.

The complete coil feedline features a double end pull-off coil reel and coil car combination, 10,000lb per side capacity, a coil loading cart with auto centering, a seven-roll powered straightener, threading table and a CHS “Matrix” model MX300 servo roll feed. CHS designed a special braking system for this delicate material – as the coil unwinds, the OD is monitored by a laser and the brake pressure is adjusted automatically through the run. A custom “dual caliper” system allows for smooth unwinding of the coil and very low tension, which was important for this project as the material was very thin and pre-painted. The heavy duty seven-roll powered straightener features a high lift head for ease of roll cleaning and neoprene coated exit rollers to prevent marking of the material. The thread table, featuring a nylon top, enhances automatic material threading from the reel or straightener to the press feed. The rollers on the MX-318 HD cabinet-mounted servo feed are also neoprene coated to prevent material marking. The servo feed is also equipped with a Rexroth/Indramat servo control package with an “RFE” output card and touch screen. This line has the capability to run step-feeds of different length and fire GAG outputs to the tooling to make special patterns in the blanks. The entire system was fully tested with coil at CHS Plant 1 to ensure 100% operation and efficiency prior to shipment. To watch a video of this feedline, click here.
